Paul Dean - Dean & Associates
Paul is currently based in Australia and has worked in the international resort development industry since 1982. During that time, he has had direct involvement in the setting up of over one hundred resort and mixed use projects across some 20 different jurisdictions, incorporating either branded residences, fractional or shared ownership offerings. In 1987, he was a founding Director of FNTC and helped grow the company into the largest global Trust and Administrative entity specializing in the shared ownership industry, prior to leaving the Company in 1995 to set up his own consultancy practice.
He has authored a study of hotel and mixed-use resort development, a study of the south-east Asian vacation ownership market, both published by the Economist Intelligence Unit as well as a 300 page study of the global shared ownership industry published by Mintel in 2004. He is co-author of the Timeshare Volume (Vol.41) of the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents published by LexisNexis, arguably the leading legal textbook on this subject worldwide and is currently authoring a Supplement on Fractional Ownership for the same publishers.
Paul worked full-time for a major global hospitality brand, as Senior Vice-President, Business Development for Europe and the Middle East. He has provided expert witness advice and testimony relating to the resort industry and has advised Governments on regulatory issues and frameworks for the shared ownership sector.
For more than 20 years, Paul has been a speaker at various Hospitality Industry Investment Conferences including IHIF, HICAP and ANZPHIC, as well as at Resort Development Conferences including the ARDA Spring Conventions in the USA, plus Beijing, Macau, Hong Kong, Auckland and industry conferences across Europe and elsewhere.
He can list amongst his consultancy clients Arthur D. Little Limited, De Vere Hotels and Resorts, Dubai Holdings, Hg Capital, Hilton Group, Hines, Interval International; Marriott Vacation Club International, MacDonald Hotels, Med Group, Merita Bank, My Travel, Rank Group, RCI, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Six Senses, Thakral, Thomas Cook, TUI Ag., plus many unlisted hospitality companies and developers.
Paul has undertaken a number of detailed studies on mixed use projects incorporating Fractional Ownership within Australia, Cyprus, France, Italy, Indonesia, Ireland, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, and in a number of Caribbean Islands, plus the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. He has also had hands-on involvement in the analysis, conceptualizing, design and implementation of fractional ownership programs in a variety of locations.
He specialises in mixed use resort development, hotel-related real estate and shared ownership offerings, resort re-positioning, workouts and turnarounds.
